Connecting and Assigning AV & Bridge Devices
This topic covers how to discover Biamp Workplace-supported audiovisual devices and bridges, then connect those devices to Workplace organizations and assigning them to a location.
Required tools and access
The Biamp Workplace Tools desktop app
The Biamp Workplace Tools Desktop App is used to discover Workplace-compatible audiovisual devices and connect them to Biamp Workplace organizations. The app is available for Windows and Mac downloads on the biamp.com Downloads page.
Workplace Connect deprecated: Please note that the Biamp Workplace Connect desktop app will be deprecated in May 2026.
Subnet access
The computer running the Biamp Workplace Tools Desktop App must be connected to the subnet the devices are on.
Biamp Workplace account and organization rights
Connecting devices to a Biamp Workplace organization requires a Workplace account and Admin or Owner rights in that organization.
Licenses
Reminder: Each Biamp Workplace location must have an activated Manage and Monitor license to enable device monitoring and management functions for assigned devices.
Device discovery process
1. If you have not done so, connect the computer to the subnet that the devices are on, if you have not already done so.
2. Open the Workplace Connect Desktop App. Devices on the subnet not assigned to an organization will be immediately visible on the app's management page.
- Discovery process: The app's discovery service automatically discovers devices once it is on the same subnet as the Biamp Workplace-supported devices.
- Invisible Devices: Devices connected to organizations are not visible, even if on the same subnet.
You can now manage visible devices, including triggering software updates and sending configuration commands to supported devices (see the apps tab in the Biamp Workplace Tool desktop app).
Devices in organizations
3. Log into the app if you will be connecting devices to a Workplace organization or working with devices connected to one.
- Users will be prompted to select an organization when signing into the app.
- Invisible Devices: Devices assigned to other organizations are not visible after logging in, even if on the same subnet.
Signed-in users may change organizations at any time by selecting the organization icon on the top-right side of the screen to bring up the selection menu.
Device connection and assignment procedure
Reminder: Organizations that you will be connecting devices to must already be set up with locations to assign the devices to.
1. Select the "Connect" tab in the Biamp Workplace Tools desktop app's navigation pane, on the left side of the app's homepage.
2. On the Connect Page, select the "Not connected devices" tab.
3. Check the selection box of the device you wish to connect to the Workplace organization and assign to location within the organization.
4. In the Assign panel that opens on the right side of the page, select a location in the Workplace organization, then select the "Assign and connect" button.
- Reminder: The location you are assigning the device to must either have a Manage and Monitor device assigned to it, or you must add a Workplace-supported device that has an unused Monitor and Manage license.
Assigned and connected
The app's Devices page should now show the device connected to the organization and assigned to the selected location.
